Synthetic lethality: how to power cancer therapeutics?

biospark BioSpark Group 2021-05-30

Together, Spark Biomedicine!

Event IntroductionRecently, genetically targeted cancer therapies have been a topic of great interest. Synthetic lethality provides a new approach for the targeting of mutated genes / pathways that were previously considered undruggable with conventional therapeutic modalities.Although the phenomenon of synthetic lethality dates back to Calvin Bridges' 1922 experimental observations and Theodore Dobzhansky's 1944 coining of the term, technological advances such as CRISPR-based genome editing have transformed the concept and provided a new avenue to discover drug targets and develop novel cancer therapeutics. What is the next wave of synthetic lethality powered oncology drug development? How synthetic lethality could help in precision oncology? We are honored to invite several leaders from both research institutes and biotech companies working on synthetic lethality.Main topics to discuss in this event:1. What did we learn from PARP inhibitor?2. What are current strategies of synthetic lethality powered cancer therapeutics companies?3. What is the next wave of synthetic lethality and oncology drug development?4. How synthetic lethality could help in precision oncology?
